Abstracts
For the 2009 symposium, authors are requested to submit an abstract, no longer than 450 words (including title, author list and affiliation), that should include the following information:
- Title
- Author(s) and affiliation/company
- Introduction and Aim of presentation
- Technical outline and Conclusions
- Benefit to audience
Authors are invited to submit abstracts online by CLICKING HERE. All abstracts will be subject to review by the scientific committee. Abstracts that do not meet the remit of the symposium may be rejected. Authors of approved abstracts will be invited to deliver an oral presentation.
Submitted abstracts should be font type Times New Roman, 12 point and single line. The title should be in bold and the authors list presented with surname and then initial of first name. Please see sample abstract for guidance.
Oral presentation
Session presentations will be allocated 15 min, with 5 min for questions. All sessions will be chaired to ensure that presenters do not exceed their allocated time.
All oral presentations will be delivered in a PowerPoint format.
Posters
The SAFE Scientific committee has introduced a poster session for the 2008 Symposium. The aim of the poster session is to increase the number of abstracts that can be accepted and presented.
There are no strict guidelines on the format of the poster, but the size should not exceed that of the poster boards. Confirmation on poster board size will be announced shortly. For general guidance, the content of the poster should be similar to an oral PowerPoint presentation and font size should be readable from a distance of about 1.5 m.
Presenters are required to ‘man’ their poster during specified times (on their allocated day) during the symposium to coincide with when delegates are attending the exhibition.
Posters will be offered to presenters when the number of accepted abstracts has exceeded the availability for oral presentations, which will be determined on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. You will be given the opportunity to state your preference for an oral or poster presentation on the submission page.
Biographies
All authors are also required to submit a short biography (150 to 200 words) when submitting abstracts. Biographies will be included in the conference proceedings.
** Best Paper **
SAFE Europe actively encourages presentations of high technical quality by offering an award of ‘best paper’, which includes an expenses paid trip to attend and present at the SAFE Association meeting in the US*. At previous meetings, the audience has voted on best paper. In 2008, a selected panel of judges will make the final decision on best paper, which will be based on technical content, novelty and presentation style.
* SAFE Europe will pay for reasonable accommodation and subsistence during the duration of the symposium. Airfares will be based on economy travel using a major airline
